Build tournaments with group play, playoffs, or extra stages
Most tournaments use group play followed by playoffs. MyLivescore supports that, but also lets organizers add extra stages when the format needs it.
Group play followed by playoffs
The most common setup is simple: teams play group matches first, then the best teams continue to playoffs.
This gives teams several matches before the knockout rounds decide the winner.
Add an intermediate stage when needed
Some organizers add an intermediate stage between group play and playoffs.
That can give teams more matches, create a more even path to the final, or make the tournament more exciting before the knockout rounds.
Use B playoffs to give more teams meaningful matches
A B playoff is useful when you want more teams to keep playing after the group stage.
Instead of only the top teams getting important matches, more teams can get a proper finish to the tournament.
Add a play-in match for an uneven bracket
Sometimes the number of qualifying teams doesn't match the knockout bracket size, for example 5 teams qualifying for a 4-team knockout.
A play-in stage adds one extra match so two of those teams decide who takes the last bracket spot, before the main knockout starts.
Frequently asked questions
Can I create a tournament with only a knockout stage?
Yes. A tournament can use only one knockout stage if that is the right format.
Can I combine groups and playoffs in one tournament?
Yes. Group play followed by playoffs is one of the main supported formats.
Can I add a B playoff?
Yes. You can use extra stages for formats such as B playoffs or intermediate rounds.
What if the number of qualifying teams doesn't fit the bracket?
Use a play-in stage. It adds one extra match to resolve an uneven number of qualifiers before the knockout bracket starts.
